Who is W3NDO?

Technically

I am a software developer with 4 years (at time of writing) of experience building with Ruby, Elixir, Javascript and Python. I hold a master's degree in big data from the Vrije Universiteit Brussels.

You can find some of my favourite projects here.

Outside the technical

In The Software Development Community

I am an open source contributor particularly to the Elixir ecosystem because I beleive every developer has a mandate to build and enhance their own ecosystem. I believe the world runs on open source.

Elixir forum has become my doom scrolling site this past year(2025-2026). It is amazing to see what new ideas developers are coming up with. I also find it a great source of trouble shooting my Elixir bugs.

I am also a previous speaker at RubyConf Africa(2025). This talk covered reasons why developers should consider tests as documentation and the importance of test driven development(TDD) in their development framework.

Further I have also gave this lightning talk at PyConKe on building a recommendation engine with Python, ArangoDB and LangGraph. This was a quick exploration on what developers can build with Graph databases and why for some use cases they prove more useful than traditional relational databases.

Beyond the tech

I am a pastry chef. Ok maybe that's not accurate. I enjoy baking pastries. My signature pastry is Raisin Bread with red cherries. I do also dable in other chef-ly duties as a grillmaster. I have also been told that my burgers are amazing and I choose to believe them.

I am currently working towards meeting a sub 30 minute 5km run. As a Kenyan I feel obigated to be as close to a marathon runner as I can be.

Finally I am also a piano player. Picked it up again recently and all I can say is, if you want someone to play the entertainer on repeat at your party, give me a call.
